Kwartet Martin Haak/
Kwartet Martin
Loosdrecht Jazz Concours 1964

Since these combos were winners of the Loosdrecht Jazz Concours 1964 they both were recorded and this is the result. Martin Haak plays the beautiful ballad "Lovepotion" with a very young Ferdinand Povel (he was only 17 at that time) on saxes. The flip sees Martin Verlinden play the up-tempo and bass driven Four & Six.

Ronnie Ross
Cleopatra's Needle

We have been playing this to death, one of the great British jazz albums of all times! Furious and sharp playing by mister Ross, check "Dolphin Square" , "U96" and the title track.

Van Prince & Orchestra
Hully Gully

This single was a "giveaway" for Ballentines whiskey in Denmark. The a side is a vocal version while the flip has solos by greats such as Sahib Shihab and Palle Mikkelborg. If you don't want to pay too much money and don't want to flip it over while dj-ing you can also find it on Copenhagen Dancefloor classics II.

Louis van Dijk
Trio Louis van Dijk

This is the first ep recorded by Louis van Dijk. He was the winner of the Loosdrecht Jazz Concours in 1961 in modern style and as a result he was granted to make a record. His version of "Dear Old Stockholm" is an absolute winner!! There is also another version of this 45 where they have omitted "Straight No Chaser"

Diamond Five
Sister Sadie

This is a real cooking version of the Horace Silver track. This Flexidisc was released as a promotional give away for Puch mopeds. It is one of the most rare Diamond Five to find especially in mint condition. Watch out for the soon to be released Dutch Jazz compilation where this gem will feature!!!

SH Jazz Quintet
SH Jazz Quintet

Superb hardbop album from behind the Iron Curtain namely Czechoslovakia. Led by Karel Velebny these guys knew how to rock but it is the moving and haunting "Delilah" that is the standout track for us.

Bryony James
Feeling Good

A Jazzdiggers favourite. After a slow build-up this tune quickly turns into a frantic, bongo laced latin monster, pure fire! The original lp will set you back a lot of money, if you can find it at all that is. We were able to pick up a ridiculously cheap copy but for those less fortunate it has recently been reissued as a 45 on the DeeJay imprint and rightly so.

Ernie Wilkins
In Belgrade

This is a fantastic lp by Ernie Wilkins with the Gut-Markovic sextet. Even though this lp was recorded in 1984 it has a great sound you wouldn’t expect from this era. Keep your eyes peeled for this one, it’s worth the price of admission alone for the latin flavoured Scorpion.

Dusko Goykovich
Swinging Macedonia

Originally released on the Philips label in 1966 the Jazzdiggers will have to be satisfied for now with their copy on the RTB label, issued in 1972. Mr Goykovich brings a unique flavour of the Balkan to this fantastic jazz album featuring Mal Waldron and Nathan Davis. Stand out track for us is The Wedding March of Alexander the Macedonian.

Roby Weber
Lover Of My Soul

Swiss piano player Roby Weber cuts loose with some great grooves including lots of vibes and electric piano on this lp from 1973. Especially worthwhile for their rendition of Worksong. The Jazzdiggers love this one!
